And they always come back

It is not clear why and if Hollywood is actually keeping a secret agenda and if talent agents have meetings about which actor it is about time to replace with a younger model.

What seems clear is, that the similarities are so obvious, even the Daily Telegraph posted this montage to point out the obvious:

Brad Pitt is the new Robert Redford:

redford_pitt

So what happens if we take a closer look at other actors?

George Clooney is the new Cary Grant:

David Boreanaz is the new James Garner:

Matthew McConaughey is the new Paul Newman:

That’s all we got so far. Do you agree or have any more suggestions?

Update 14.06.09

#  Kyle MacLachlan is the new Robert Vaughn as suggested by Thomas

# Paul Walker is the the new(er) Kevin Costner (I had an argument with a friend once if Paul Walker is the younger Kevin Costner…back then I said no, but now I can see where she was coming from… )

Matthew McConaughey’s j.k.livin e-store open for business

If you ever wanted to ride the waves with Surfer, Dude Matthew McConaughey aka Steve Addington and share a shirt with Hollywood’s most famous free spirit celebrity your dream has finally come true.

The j.k.living store is open for business and has some great looking items on offer. You can buy T-shirts, Hoodies, Wristbands and much more online and in line with the brand’s unique philosophy.

“j.k.livin is not a rulebook, it’s a lifestyle, because everyone can apply it differently.”

the j.k.livin family (www.jklivingstore.com)

According to Matthew the inspiration for the name came from his role in the 1993 cult movie Dazed and Confused. Matthew’s father (now eternalized in the j.k.livin logo) who once told him not to “half-ass” whatever he wants to do, died seven days into filming. A line from the movie inspired Matthew to deal with life’s ups and downs and to always stay true to his ideals:

“Let me tell you this, the older you do get, the more rules they’re gonna try to get you to follow. You gotta just keep livin’ man, L-I-V-I-N.”

If you want your own piece of the pie but live outside the US sales tells you to hang in there for now as the initial target market is the USA. But since there is no supply without demand it might help speed things up to send an email to customer support letting them know you are waiting to get your gear wherever you are based on the planet.

Jensen Ackles – Bring out the tiger in you!

Long gone are the days when the 4th season TV show Supernatural (Thursdays on the CW) was aimed at teenage viewers. The show is so fully packed with subtle puns and obvious pop-culture jokes that it is best enjoyed by folks in their 30s. So it is no surprise the show has become somewhat of an advocate for the revival of old 70/80s tunes defined by the show itself as a collection of ‘Greatest Hits of Mullet Rock’. Not only has Carry on my Wayward Son by Kansas become the show’s unofficial theme tune after being featured in two episodes and is often being played at Supernatural Conventions, but it has fans of the show rummaging through their old tape or disc collections gathering their very own Supernatural Mullet Rock Soundtrack.

Music has always been a very important feature of the show’s steep success and the latest addition to the special league of revived songs amongst Back in Black by ACDC and Renegade by Styx (just to name the most favored ones) is Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger which once more is proof that you can have so much fun with Mullet Rock.

What makes it even a little more special for fans of the show is seeing lead actor Jensen Ackles, who is usually known as the introvert one off-camera, coming out of his shell in some kind of Hasselhoffish gag reel parody airguitaring to “Eye of the Tiger” whilst the crew is giggling away in the off.

When he lets out the tiger in him, Jensen’s timing for comedy will tickle your funny bone until it hurts in a good way.

Paul Walker has a tattoo, woohooo!

I stumbled over it by accident whilst watching his latest straight-to-DVD-“The Lazarus Project”-movie and at first did not think anything of it, since Paul displayed a fake tattoo on his forearm in the “Death and Life of Bobby Z” before to give his criminal character acting a bit of an edge.

In the latest film The Lazarus Project it also looked like the tat was yet another prop. It can be seen several times from a distance and is only readable enough once in a close up when he is handling a decoder unit called Marilyn and both his hands and wrists are shown.

When freeze framed the tattoo on his right inside wrist is visible and simply reads: Meadow.

Paul Walker's wrist tattoo

This leads to the logical assumption that it refers to his daughter Meadow Rain and makes the tattoo even more plausible and real.

In the film the ornamental letters are accompanied by a Hibiscus flower to the right, which could well be a prop added for the movie to give the tat bit more impact, or it could be a later addition, though I doubt Paul had the courage for a bigger tattoo.

It seems a little strange that no one has reported anything about his wrist tattoo yet, since it is a very sweet and darn sexy addition to his body that is worshipped by so many and considered flawless.

update 08.04.2009:

There indeed is a hibiscus flower added around the swirly name and the tat looks very real, so no movie prop. Nice.

Henry Poole is Here

Is he now – that is great, but who is Henry Poole – and where exactly is Here? I have looked it up on google maps and Here could be in France but I very much doubt that Henry Poole is in France as that would mean that they constantly keep misspelling the word Here. So where the hell is he?

Well, first of all he is neither here nor there. Henry Poole (Luke Wilson) is a man who wants to dissapear and be left alone and drink too much and just be left miserable in general. We all know this feeling that washes over us from time to time like a huge tidal wave and Henry Poole is one of those people. He wants to sell his crapshack of a house and leave everything behind but then one day his real estator (a lovely feisty woman who likes to believe) discovers a stain on his house wall and she thinks it’s the face of god and then the plot really takes off. More and more people come round and litter his front lawn as the stain seems to work miracles, but Henry Poole is too miserable and lost to believe any of this at first, but then slowly his attitude towards life changes because something has to happen during this film…

First time round the trailer suggest a quirky film from the hands of Mark Pellington while the second time round the story feels a little naive in places. The girl that doesn’t speak and then she speaks because of Henry and his stained stucco job… It’s a little too soft for my taste but miracles don’t need to be big and a film needs to be entertaining and grumpy Luke Wilson can be my neighbour anytime – Just make sure your stucco job pilgrims stay off my front lawn!

So I still don’t know why Henry Poole is here or there or anywhere, but that’s for me to see and you to find out.

Bonus: A nice soundtrack.

Surfer, Dude

Let’s just start this with the ultimate homage to this blogs’ patron words: stoked, dude and goats. Maybe not in this particular order but close enough.

Well, there is this new movie called “Surfer, Dude” as in “I’m a Surfer, Dude” and it’s out next month. See the tag here shows it clearly so really, you have no excuse not to see this movie now.

The official movie blurb goes as follows:

Longboarding soul-surfer Steve Addington (Matthew McConaughey) returns to Malibu for the summer to find his cool hometown vibe corrupted. New sponsorship demands Addington to expand into Virtual Reality Video Games and Reality TV. Unwilling to participate in this new digital-reality, he chooses to spend his summer surfing his home break. But in a twist-of-fate, the waves go flat and stay flat. Out of money, his expense-accounts canceled, and betrayed by his buddies, Addington is backed into a harsh corner. He must endure the insanity that comes with no waves or give into “the Man” and his new, reality-altering machines. Aided by his manager (Woody Harrelson), his mentor (Scott Glenn), his guardian-angel (Willie Nelson) and his summer lover (Alexie Gilmore), Addington has a chance of keeping his cool, but it’s not going to be easy. The dude needs a wave, and there’s never been a drought like this.

The trailer goes like this:

I promise it has goats in it and lots of stoke and while that should be plenty of reason to watch this movie, it also has other stuff in it, like Matthew McConaughey shirtless throughout the entire movie which is a first, but something he has been planning for years now. Congratulations on your success. I always believed in you.

I personally favour Willie Nelson for no particular reason other than that he is really cool and as much as I try to ignore it, but Woody’s wig is just wrong. It looks wrong and that’s that.

As for the goats, I hope they are as stoked as I am and if I am stoked as a goat and the goat is as stoked as me then we have done our soul surfing. Now go on, do yours brah.
